MULGRAVE COMMUNITY
RESEARCH PROJECT

Bulletin 3 April 2009

Another very busy month………

Seton Church Project – Kevin visited us on 1st April, and gave us an update on his work with the local Schools. We need to make a start on transferring the information we have into Word documents. Computers are available every Wednesday afternoon 1.30 – 3.30pm if anyone wants to drop in. Bring your own laptop if you prefer. We have wireless broadband for anyone wanting to do internet research on the Church.
Kevin’s next visit will be 27th May 1.30pm, Hinderwell V Hall.
As soon as the field has been surveyed and an accurate map of our own produced, it is hoped that a dowsing survey can be undertaken fairly soon.
Now that should be interesting!

Hinderwell Station/Old Railway Memories – two displays during April, attracted 39 residents, many making a visit for the first time to any of the organised activities. The evening session was particularly well attended. We were also contacted by someone from Kirbymoorside, who couldn’t attend, but sent a photo from the 1920’s. A local person allowed us to take a picture of the well pump from the station (which he purchased and rescued before demolition).

Hinderwell High Street – we have been contacted by Oakridge School to see if we could join forces and help them with a project they are about to undertake. We obviously were very pleased to help, and a good deal of information has been passed to them.

Exhibition at Aislaby – another fantastically well attended event – over 100 people, which again attracted interest from as far away as Leeds. Residents expressed an interest in starting a Local History Group. An exciting find was a box of over 20 reels of old 16mm films of the village and several village events
(fetes, pantomimes, football etc).

We met with representatives from the LEADER project regarding a possible bid for funding to extend MCRP for a further three years. We meet the criteria, but the application needs a bit more development before it can be submitted.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed.
